When weather contributes to car accidents

No matter what time of year it is, Ohio can experience inclement weather. When that happens, drivers ought to adjust their driving to account for low visibility or trouble remaining on the road and/or in their lanes of travel. Otherwise, it could lead to serious or even deadly car accidents.

On a recent Wednesday morning, fog and rain plagued some of Ohio's roadways. During this time, two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on Ohio State Route 60. Just after 8 a.m., as the two vehicles approached each other, something went terribly wrong.

The vehicles collided head-on. When troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, they discovered two individuals alive in the wreckage. An 18-year-old man and a 29-year-old man both suffered serious injuries in the impact. At last report, both drivers remained in critical condition at a hospital in the area.

Depending on the nature and extent of their injuries, the drivers involved in this accident could spend a substantial amount of time recovering, if they are able to achieve a full recovery at all. During this time, they will undoubtedly incur substantial medical other expenses related to the crash. They may also miss time at work and suffer other damages as well.

An investigation will seek to determine the factors that led to the crash and the driver officials deem at fault. A personal injury claim for monetary damages often comes next, wherein an injured accident victim sues the driver believed to have been at fault. If the appropriate evidence proves that the injuries suffered resulted from the negligence of the party sued, a monetary judgment may be awarded by the court. The receipt of any restitution could help with damages often caused by car accidents.
